Recreational Opportunities Allowing Respite

roar-logoThe ROAR scheme (Recreational Opportunities Allowing Respite) takes groups of adults with Learning Disabilities out on social activities in the community, whilst their unpaid carers receive a break. A monthly programme of activities is organised that members can choose from.

Potential members must live in, or receive services in Dacorum, be over 18 and have a learning disability. An application form must be completed for each new member so that we can ensure that we can meet everyone’s needs.  Core funding for the ROAR Scheme is provided on an annual basis by Hertfordshire County Council.

All members ROAR must also be members of Dacorum Mencap. This costs £7 per year. Each member will receive our newsletter throughout the year and will be entitled to vote at our AGM.

The scheme aims to accommodate people with varying degrees of learning disabilities who may also have other special needs. We are happy to discuss the needs of individuals. Some activities may not be suitable for everyone.

All activities are organised and led by the scheme staff (Kelly, Lucille, Vicky or Becky) assisted by trained and vetted volunteers.
